Lane Older started Floathaven Seaplane Base on Lake Whatcom in 1960, offering charters, flight instruction, and maintenance. Lane's son, Dan grew up with the business as a mechanic's apprentice and later contributed as a pilot on seaplanes and land-based aircraft. Dan Older became director of operations for Floathaven in 1976. Old Aire is often referred to as the best kept secret in Whatcom County.
